Many Among Us
St. Augustine of Hippo, a renowned theologian and reformist - has by many standards - helped create what we know as western theology today. I just got a small book of his and am eager to learn. Read on:
"Our hearts were made for You, O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in You." [St. Augustine]
My paraphrase goes somethings like this:
"Our hearts were made for You and by You, O Lord - for you knew what we needed most - You - and they are restless until they rest in You."
Though it is not 'canonized' scripture, it burns inside of me because it truly is the restless, unspoken part of all of us. Throughout our days - we long for the One who created us - and by coming near to Him - we find a satisfaction so great and mighty that our eyes blink and spirit soar, and we are left with a longing for more. Its truly a remarkable thing to behold - grace that mends our hearts to His - the redemption of the sons and daughters back to our homeland. And our glorious resting place. Until then, we are restless.
