Of This Intervention We Love

I was gonna start off by asking you if you have ever wanted to fly. Then I re-thought my approach to the question because I know that most people, probably everyone has wanted to fly at least one time in their life [I am up to desire #3,557 for flying today]. A better question would be, "who would you fly with?" or "what changed around me or in me that made it so I could fly?" Birds fascinate me and its still a wonder to me how it is that they actually sum up the courage to leap off of huge buildings and trees and swoop over large bodies of water or fast moving cars. Who gave them the courage to do that? Who taught them or built into them the desire and need to jump and then soar? I'm not sure if what I am about to say has anything to do with birds or flying but if it comes together for you, bravo.

[Hebrews 11:33&34] is a moving statement of people who started out with little [courage, hope, ability, etc.] and ended up with much [victory, trust, favour, etc.]. Here's what stood out to me in the largeness of impossibility and problems:
  • subdued kingdoms - worked righteousness - obtained promises - stopped the mouths of lions
  • quenched the violence of fire - escaped the edge of the sword - out of weakness were made strong - became valiant in battle - turned to flight the armies of aliens

At every step, these people were always lacking something. They were ALMOST getting stabbed, ALMOST getting eatin, ALMOST lost in battle. YET, everytime --- there is Intervention. Something comes between them and their problem each time. That something is faith. Today I realized that intervention is a product of faith. It is the reality of something happening in the midst of utter chaos and impossibility. Its common in occurence yet its occurence is absolutely necessary for our survival. And the greatest intervention that ever lived was Jesus. I am so glad He chose to be my intervention. My Faith. But don't get me wrong. Faith isn't some distant cloud of happy thoughts. Its absolutely the reality of the grace that we live in. Its the reality that we are saved and that His power is doing what He said it would do. Changing impossibility into perfection.

Josh - Dude, I'm there with you. I'm a person who was created with a lot of passion. I've jumped off of quite a few ledges in my life. Not were all good decisions, but I'm just not able to remain on the ledge or the branch or the couch of life. When I do something, I really do it and put my whole heart into it. Nothing happens when you do nothing (sounds rediculous, but it's true), when you live your life in the safe, shallow waters. You have to dive into the deep end, jump off the high dive, take a leap of faith and see what happens. Josh, I know you know the scene from the Indiana Jones movie where he has to take steps on stones he can't see. But with every step he takes, another stone appears under his feet. It didn't mean the stone wasn't there. He just didn't see it. It's the same with God. We can't always see him underneath us, supporting us, ensuring our every step. Certainly, nothing bad can happen to you when you don't jump. But nothing good can happen either. Many times, God wants to bless others through our risks. When we refuse to jump, we often rob others of the blessings that God wanted to bestow upon them through us. God even blesses us and others through our failures. But if we never risk anything, we'll never gain anything. The parable of the talents is another great example of what I'm talking about. Check it out! Peace!
